1965 BSA B40 350cc – Ex-AFS Service Motorcycle | Historic Auxiliary Fire Service Example
A rare and historically significant 1965 Ex-AFS BSA B40 350cc, originally used by the Auxiliary Fire Service and Civil Defence Corps. These machines were built for reliability, simplicity, and utility during Britain’s Cold War era, where the AFS prepared to fight fires and pump water in the event of a nuclear attack.
This example retains much of its authentic AFS character, complete with its military green paintwork, fire extinguisher, and saddlebags, just as it would have been equipped in service. After being retired from active AFS use around 1968, it was sold via government surplus, with a 1974 bill of sale included to verify its fascinating history.
Now presenting as a wonderfully honest and lightly restored machine, it remains largely original with select refurbished parts and the practical upgrade of electronic ignition for easier starting and improved reliability.
A charming piece of British history, lightweight, easy to handle, and full of character.
